About Kevin
Kevin Lorenz's musical career has many facets including performance, conducting, composition, teaching, and arranging, all in many musical styles. As a guitarist Kevin studied classical guitar at UNC-Greensboro while earning his PhD in music education. In addition he attended master classes with Michael Lorimer and Jesus Silva among others.
Kevin uses his training in classical music and applies it to other styles including jazz, pop, ragtime, bossa nova, and Irish music. He has performed with the Asheville Symphony and the NC Pops Orchestra and as a soloist he has played in churches, theatres, hotels, colleges, universities, B&B’s, country clubs, and other venues too numerous to list. His television appearances include the morning show on WLOS in Asheville and he was the featured artist for a half hour public television show in Wilson, NC. Delta Airlines has used his solo recordings for in-flight music, and his songs and recordings with the band First Light have been heard on numerous radio stations across the country and in many performances.
Kevin has two beautiful daughters and lives outside Asheville with his wonderful wife and two dogs, where he enjoys gardening and outdoor activities. He is director of music and music teacher at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School where he regularly plays his many arrangements for solo guitar, and teaches guitar at Montreat College, where his arrangements for guitar ensemble are frequently performed, including works for guitar ensemble with chamber orchestra.
Ensemble work in a number of different musical settings is a mainstay of Kevin's career, and he is currently performing frequently with violinist Ruben Orengo.
